Read on to find out more about the ways that the Toyota Tundra is superior to the Ford F-150.
Safety
The Toyota Tundra offers more options when it comes to a more personal fit over the Ford F-150. Case in point, the front and rear shoulder belts in the Tundra are height-adjustable which allows the Tundra to better accommodate drivers and passengers of all shapes and sizes. F-150 only offers front height-adjustable belts. Better-fitting belts can help prevent injuries and, let's face it, if a seat belt is more comfortable, there's a better chance that your passengers will choose to buckle up.
TheĀ National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5Ā MPH and into a post at 20Ā MPH, results indicate that the Toyota Tundra is safer than the Ford F-150:
New test not comparable to pre-2011 test results. More stars = Better. Lower test results = Better.
The Tundra comes standard with daytime running lights, a feature that studies show can reduce accidents by 11% by making your vehicle more visible to other drivers on the road. Ford F-150 doesn't offer daytime running lights at any trim level. Additionally, the Toyota Tundra comes with braking assist which will help you stop faster in an emergency-stop situation and parking sensors designed to alert you to potential obstacles both in front of and behind the vehicle. The F-150 lacks these technologies and, the most telling difference of them all, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has determined through rigorous crash testing that the Toyota Tundra is safer than the F-150 across the board.
Reliability
Before we can begin talking about reliability, we need to talk about scheduled maintenance. The best way to make sure that your new vehicle maintains its dependability is to keep up on regular maintenance. While Ford offers no complimentary maintenance plan standard, Toyota will pay for your scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 25,000 miles including oil changes, tire rotation, lubrication and any other recommended scheduled maintenance that your new Tundra requires. This may be one of the reasons that Consumer Reports predicts that the Tundra will be as much as 13% more reliable than the F-150. In addition, J.D. Power and Associates also ranks the Tundra significantly higher than the F-150 in initial quality and, in a long-term dependability survey, the Tundra also comes out ahead.
Performance
Not only does a comparable Tundra model outperform a comparable F-150 in terms of speed and acceleration, the Tundra is more fuel efficient according to the EPA. In addition, while both the Toyota Tundra and the Ford F-150 offer 4-wheel drive, the Tundra takes things a step further by offering Active Traction Control, a system that can sense traction and redirect power to keep your Tundra moving in situations where the F-150 might end up stuck. Additionally, in various agility tests such as cornering and figure-eight, the Tundra easily outperformed the F-150. The Tundra also boasts greater ground clearance versus the F-150, which means that the Toyota Tundra can go more places, especially off-road, without damaging its chassis.
When it comes to payload and cargo capacity, the Tundra easily bests the F-150 with larger cargo box capacity regardless of model and also boasts a much higher standard payload capacity. Haul more and do more when you choose Toyota Tundra over Ford F-150
Comfort & Interior Design
When it comes to legroom, hip room and shoulder room, the Tundra beats the F-150 at every cab configuration and, for extended comfort, especially on longer drives, the Tundra CrewMax has available rear seats that recline. The F-150 offers no reclining rear seats. Additionally, the Tundra features dual-element and extendable sun visors which improve visibility by blocking the sun from multiple angles. The F-150 doesn't offer any of these features. The mirrors on the Tundra come standard as remote power mirrors while this feature is merely optional on the F-150. By the same token, the mirrors on the Tundra are heated as a standard feature. You have to pay extra to have heated mirrors on the F-150. As far as climate control, Toyota offers dual zone climate control standard in the Tundra, including rear vents in the Double Cab and Crew Cab models. Dual zone climate control is an option, only available on upper trim levels of the F-150 and, even then, rear vents aren't offered.
Economic Advantages
Factoring in things such as the cost of insurance, the cost of scheduled maintenance and ownership costs such as depreciation, fuel, fees and more, the Toyota Tundra comes out ahead in the sense that it will cost you less to own and operate than the F-150. These conclusions were drawn utilizing information from The Car Book by Jack Gillis and estimates by IntelliChoice.
